This is all very familiar. Every Rock Eisteddfod or Lift dance performance I created began as an idea – I had no idea where any of them were going and in the end the linked images and sounds became something with a life of their own driven by the collective efforts of the ensemble. There was nothjng more gratifying than a Sunday spent with my dancers simply creating movement. Their faith and belief in the process was extraordinary and in many ways inexplicable to the audience, who inevitably were looking for either a story line or meaning in what was a creative experience. An Eisteddfod judge once commented that what he was experiencing felt like a Robert Wilson – at that point I didn’t know who Wilson was but I could see the similarities.
